An alchemist is a now obsolete type of scientist and mystic whose work was dedicated to concocting elixirs meant to bring immortality to their drinker. They also sought to find ways of turning commonplace materials into gold and were recognized as a highly secretive sort.

An Anathema is the hybrid creation of an Apokomistis and a human male.

An angel is an immortal being in possession of Graces and a Key.

An Apokomistis (Pronunciation: sing. əˌpɔkɔˈmɪstɪs; pl. əˌpɔkɔˈmɪstaɪ) is an older, stronger demon capable of manifesting in the physical. The plural form of the noun is Apokomistai.

The Archangels were the highest of the twelve Orders of angels, comprised of the first twelve and most powerful angels. Each Archangel embodies a specific set of qualities known as the Graces, and their Keys correspond to their Graces. They are also known as the Twelve, and they are Camael, Ariel, Nadiel, Gabriel, Michael, Raphael, Uriel, Raziel, Sachiel, Anael, Cassiel and Barakiel.

An artist is a human occupation that involves the creation of that which can be appreciated aesthetically. They often refer to but are not strictly limited to those who create art that is appreciated visually.

An astronomer / astrologer is a human occupation that involves the study of the stars. Humans used to consider them to be interchangeable terms, but as of late, astronomer refers to those who quantify the physical properties of the stars, and astrologer refers to those who assign a qualitative meaning to their metaphysical effect. They both still use a fair amount of prediction, albeit in different respects.

Ayasas (Pronunciation IPA: aɪˈjɑːsɑz) are manacles of angelic steel. They bind angels and Apokomistai to a specific point in spacetime, both preventing escape and allowing for transport. They work on Nekus, too, in that they bind a Neku within his host. Ayasas have been known to work on a handful of Anathemas and Nephilim over the ages, but they do not work on Archangels.

The Cherubim were the warrior class of the Orders. The singular form of the noun is Cherub.

A demon is an immortal, malevolent and prevalent being.

A demon pact is an agreement between a human and an Apokomistis that involves the surrendering of the human’s soul to the demon in exchange for some temporary effect. The Apokomistis always has the upper hand in the deal.

Disobedience, in this particular context, refers to the phenomenon in which angels disobeyed the directives they received from Heaven. Humans usually find it surprising to learn that it happened more often than was recorded in their lore about the supernatural.

The Dominions were the Order assigned to the management of processes within Heaven and the Universe. Their purpose was primarily supervisory of the other Orders.

An ellamadus is a book or object that channels white magic. The plural form of the noun is ellamadi.

An Epiklasmon (Pronunciation: ˌɛpɪˈklæzmʌn) is the hybrid creation of a mortal male and a Nekudaimon in a female host. They are too weak to survive for longer than a few hours after being born.

The Estates are thirteen hierarchical distinctions applied to demons. They are, from highest to lowest, Kings and Queens, Princes and Princesses, Presidents, Chancellors, Dukes and Duchesses, Margraves and Margravines, Counts and Countesses, Viscounts and Viscountesses, Barons and Baronesses, Knights and Dames, Generals, Devils and Demons.

Everything is, well, everything. It includes all the planes of existence, such as Heaven and the Universe, as well as the dimensions of spacetime.

The Firmament were the Order responsible for the actual creation of the Universe, in that they were the sculptors and artists who put things into place.

God is the Supreme Being, the first of everything. He left the Heaven and the Universe on July 24, 1942, a date recognized by the angels as either the Sunderance or the Great Repudiation.

Grace is pure metaphysical, immortal energy that is the lifeforce of an angel. It is creation itself, and it is expressed in twelve distinct qualities. Nephilim inherit Grace from their angel fathers; it is what makes them stronger than humans.

Gratitude is the Key associated with the Archangel Michael.

The Great Repudiation is the term employed by angels who believe that God permanently left Heaven and the Universe on July 24, 1942, and will never return.

A grimoire is a book or object of black and demonic magics.

Heaven is the common name of the metaphysical plane that symbiotically coexists and corresponds with the physical plane of the Universe. Heaven is infinite, immortal and self-perpetuating.

The Heavenly Host was Heaven’s army, primarily comprised of the orders of the Cherubim and Seraphim. The Commander-in-Chief was the Archangel Michael.

Hell’s Legion is an army of demons.

Humans are scientifically recognized as Homo sapiens sapiens.

Hybrid creation are the combination of two species, typically one immortal and one mortal. With notable exceptions, the offspring typically inherits the best qualities of both parents.

Inspiration is the Key associated with the Archangel Nadiel.

A Key is the core quality of an angel or Nephil. There are twelve Keys: Joy, Comfort, Inspiration, Protection, Gratitude, Unity, Harmony, Renewal, Freedom, Fortitude, Lucidity and Fulfillment. Three pairs of Keys are twinned: Comfort and Protection; Renewal and Fulfillment; and Freedom and Lucidity.

The Latokama (Pronunciation: ˌlɑtɔˈkɑmɑ) is the name for the network that facilitates and stores all angelic communication and information. It is managed by the Principalities.

Magic is the manipulation of the metaphysical with the aim of altering the physical world in one respect or another. It’s how one gets something out of apparently nothing.

A magician is a human occupation involving the manipulation of the metaphysical in order to obtain a physical result. Most magicians operate using black and demonic magics.

A Magnificat (Pronunciation: mɑnˈyɪfɪˌkɑt) is the detectable sound indicating the presence of Grace within an angel or Nephil. It is communicated as a chant or a song, although some angels and Nephilim choose to stifle it. The term comes from the Latin phrase Magnificat anima mea Dominum, which translates to “my soul magnifies God.” Some angels and Nephilim alternately refer to the Magnificat as the Edarza.

A Metatronic decade is a unit of angelic time comprised of seven years.

Nadiel’s Graces are best expressed as three different levels of Inspiration: Adaptability, Judgment and Mindfulness. (Cf. Grace.)

A namkya (Pronunciation: ˈnɑmkjɑ) is the spouse of an angel or Nephil.

Namkyandem (Pronunciation: nɑmˈkjɑndɛm) is an immortal contract that joins two angels or Nephilim in a partnership that is similar to marriage; it is a mutual agreement to love each other forever. The Namkyandem ceremony binds those who agree to it in both Heaven and in the Universe.

A Nekudaimon (Pronunciation: sing. ˌnɛkuˈdaɪːmɔn; pl. ˌnɛkuˈdaɪːmɔnɛs / abbr. sing. – ˈnɛːku; abbr. pl. ˈnɛːkuz) is a younger, weaker demon who cannot function in the physical without possessing a living human or animal host. The plural form of the noun is Nekudaimones. The term is frequently shortened to Neku, with Nekus as the plural.

A Nephil (Pronunciation: sing. ˈnɛfɪl; pl. ˈnɛfɪlɪm) is the hybrid creation of an angel and a female human. The plural form of the noun is Nephilim, although one frequently sees the plural misused to describe the singular.

A netra (Pronunciation: ˈnɛtrɑ) is an angel who has agreed to care for, guide and educate a Nephil whose parents aren’t able to take care of her/him.

The Occultations were the Order who kept God’s secrets.

The Orders were twelve different occupations assigned to the angels by God for the design, construction and management of the Universe.

An origin, within this particular context, is the emergence of a species or the first use of a term. Rather self-explanatory.

The Phlogistoi (Pronunciation: sing. flɔˈgɪstɔs; pl. flɔˈgɪstoɪ) were the Order responsible for the purification of spacetime, so that it was capable of supporting new creation. The singular form of the noun is Phlogistos.

A plane of existence is an entire realm of totality or wholeness that is typically comprised of space and/or time.

The Powers were the Order responsible for the management of Graces.

The Principalities were the Order responsible for information and communication. They were the keepers of the Latokama.

Religion typically refers to a set of beliefs and behaviors meant to allow its adherents to understand the Universe and its purpose. It is never meant to be confused with politics and all attendant principles (e.g. the oxymoronic phrase a religious war), although it frequently is.

A Sandalphonic course is an angelic leap year cycle that lasts twelve years.

Science involves processes, procedures and methods meant to test, deconstruct, reconstruct and understand how the Universe is put together. It involves the collection of data and the validation of that data through observation, quantification and documentation.

The Seraphim were the guardian class of the Orders. Most of the Seraphim served as God’s personal guard and are therefore fundamentally loyal. The singular form of the noun is Seraph.

The soul is the metaphysical lifeforce that energizes the physical self. It is the immortal component of a mortal creature. When it leaves its mortal host, the host’s physical self cannot sustain its processes and dies.

Spacetime is the term used to describe dimensional composition of this Universe, for it has three dimensions of space and one dimension of time.

The Sunderance is a term employed by angels that refers to July 24, 1942. The angels who use it believe that God will return to Heaven and the Universe someday.

The Universe is the common name of the physical plane that symbiotically coexists and corresponds with the metaphysical plane of Heaven. The Universe is finite and mortal, and it operates according to cycles of birth, death and rebirth.

Uriel (Pronunciation: ˈʊɾiˌɛl) is the Archangel of Justice, Equanimity and Balance. His Key is Harmony, and he was the Chief of the Thrones. His name is often horribly maligned by native English speakers and is properly pronounced OOH-ree-ell.

The Virtues were the Order dedicated to the design of the Universe. They were the architects and the engineers in Heaven.

The Watchers were the Order tasked with observing and reporting back on specific phenomenon within the Universe.
